Smead Program Director Lewis Groswald has earned a 2020 �Թ�� of Colorado Boulder Research and Innovation Office Seed Grant.

The project is one of 25 being funded by the Seed Grant program. The awards signify an investment in the future research and scholarly or artistic vitality of the university.

Groswald is Co-PI on the grant with two colleagues, PI Mark Meaney and Co-PI, Zach Donohew, both from the Leeds School of Business.

The project, “Space and Sustainability: Norms of Behavior for Sustainable Development of Commercial Space Activities,” will create a “Business of Space” template for the development of strategic planning and business models for entrepreneurs in the commercial space industry, develop and integrate norms of behavior into the business model template to address issues of space sustainability, link norms of behavior to UN Sustainable and Millennium Development Goals, and develop executive education programming in this domain for the �Թ��.

As part of its foundational work, the project will conduct market analyses and survey research in orbital debris and space sustainability. The Project Team is currently constituting its advisory board and is soliciting nominations from inside and outside of the �Թ��. Groswald is not the only Smead Aerospace honoree in the 2020 Seed Grant program. Professor Mahmoud Hussein also earned a grant for a new concept related to nanophononic metamaterials.
