Student Employee of the Year

CU Boulder’s student employees directly contribute to the university’s success. To recognize our students’ work and accomplishments, supervisors can submit nominations for the Student Employee of the Year award. This process includes undergraduate and graduate students.ÌýÌýÌý

All nominees will be invited to a special luncheon with the chancellor to celebrate their hard work and achievements. The Student Employee of the Year award winner will also be submitted to the (NSEA) for national award consideration.Ìý

Eligibility

All CU Boulder student employees are eligible.Ìý

  • There are awards for both undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Students must be employed on campus or through an off-campus work-study position.
  • Undergraduates must be enrolled in at least six credit hours in a CU Boulder degree seeking program; graduates must be enrolled in a CU Boulder degree-seeking graduate program.ÌýÌý

CU Boulder staff and faculty supervisors of student employees and off-campus work-study employers can nominate students for this award. If the student you wish to nominate no longer works in your department, please coordinate with their current supervisor to gain their support or collaborate on a joint nomination.Ìý

Undergraduate Student Employee of the Year

Nominate undergraduate students in one of the following NSEA categories:

  • Community Service
  • Social Impact & Belonging
  • Leadership
  • Technology & Innovation
  • Critical ThinkingÌý

Nominators may nominate multiple students, but each student can only be nominated in a single category by the same nominator.ÌýÌý

A committee will evaluate nominations using a , and the top scorers in each category will be submitted to NSEA.Ìý

Graduate Student Employee of the Year

Nominate graduate students, speaking to criteria in each of the following areas:Ìý

Social Impact & Belonging
The student employee demonstrates empathy and compassion for others in their work and actively cultivates an inclusive environment by valuing diverse perspectives, challenging bias and advancing equity, respect and a strong sense of belonging for all.

Impact
The student employee suggests and helps implement an idea that has a positive, tangible impact on the department or brings positive recognition to the department. Ìý

Professionalism, Effective Communication & Interpersonal Skills
The student employee collaborates well with peers, managers, department leadership and unit stakeholders; employs appropriate methods of persuasion when soliciting agreement; and addresses problems constructively.

Leadership
The student employee is passionate about mentorship and training fellow student employees and acts as an agent of change to support the implementation of new ideas.ÌýÌýÌý

A committee will evaluate nominations using a , and the top scorer will be submitted to NSEA.ÌýÌýÌý

Write a letter sharing why your student should be recognized with this award and submit it through the . Your letter should be at a maximum of two pages and uploaded as a PDF.ÌýÌý

Additional materials will not be reviewed. Information you provide may be shared publicly through press releases and other promotional channels.ÌýÌý

Submit nominations by Jan. 23 at 11:59 p.m. MST. Late submissions will not be considered.Ìý

Awards Recognition

All nominees and nominators will be invited to a celebratory luncheon with the chancellor in April, where each nominee will be recognized and receive a certificate.ÌýÌý

Undergraduate PrizesÌý

  • Frist-place campus winner: $500
  • Runner-up: $200
  • Category winner: $100ÌýÌý

Top scorers from each NSEA category will be selected as finalists for the Student Employee of the Year award and nominated for the NSEA award, where each is eligible for a cash prize if selected at the national level.ÌýÌý

Graduate PrizesÌý

  • First-place campus winner: $500
  • Runner-up: $250ÌýÌý

The graduate campus winner will be nominated for the NSEA award and is eligible for a cash prize if selected at the national level.Ìý

  • Nominations open: Dec. 3
  • Nominations due: Jan. 23 by 11:59 p.m. MST
  • Nominations are reviewed: Jan. 26-Feb. 6
  • Winners are submitted to NSEA: Feb. 13
  • Luncheon: April 14 (winners are announced at luncheon)
