Artistic Art Histories (in Southeast Asia)

³Ô¹ÏÍø the lecture: What kinds of knowledge and understanding are engendered when contemporary artists engage, in their artwork, with overlooked histories of (post)colonial modern art? How do their practices—which I call artistic art histories—contribute to the ongoing decolonization of the discipline of art history?

³Ô¹ÏÍø the Scholar: Roger Nelson is an art historian and curator, currently Assistant Professor of Art History in the School of Humanities at Nanyang Technological ³Ô¹ÏÍø, Singapore. He was the 2022 recipient of the A.L. Becker Southeast Asian Literature in Translation Prize. His current book project considers artistic art histories in Southeast Asia. He is co-founding co-editor of Southeast of Now: Directions in Contemporary and Modern Art in Asia, a scholarly journal published by NUS Press.Â
