Information Science: Grants and New Initiatives
Prof. Robin Burke was awarded a three-year grant from the National Science Foundation for the project "Realizing Fairness in Recommender Systems: Intersectionality, Tools, Explanation". The project will study how concepts of fairness developed for machine learning can be extended to personalized recommender systems in such areas as philanthropy, news and employment.
Himan Abdollahpouri (PhDÌýstudent) and a colleague from the ³Ô¹ÏÍø of North Carolina, Charlotte got their proposal accepted to organize the 6th Recommender systems track at the 33rd FLAIRS conference. The conference will be in May 2020 in Miami, Florida.
Aaron Jiang and Brianna Dym (PhDÌýstudents) and collaborators from ³Ô¹ÏÍø of Washington, Carnegie Mellon ³Ô¹ÏÍø, Gegorgia Tech, ³Ô¹ÏÍø of California Irvine, ³Ô¹ÏÍø of Maryland, New Jersey Institute of Technology, Airbnb, and Riot Games will be co-organizing a workshop entitled "Volunteer Work: Mapping the Future of Moderation Research" at CSCW 2019 in November in Austin, TX.
