Working with various universities across the U.S., Claudia Salomon Tarquini comes to the �Թ�� of Colorado-Boulder to present her current research in Indigenous Studies. The Fullbright Scholar's informal discussion will be hosted by the Center for Native America n and Indigneous Studies (CNAIS) in cottage, 1330 Grandview Ave., Boulder, CO 80309 on Wednesday, March 15th from 1-2pm.

Salomon Tarquini's current Fullbright scholarship centers on research of histories of different indigenous peoples throughout the Americas, currently focusing on research of North American indigenous communities in the U.S. Her previous studies center on the indigenous peoples of her hometown, La Pampa, Argentina. Published works include, Largas noches en La Pampa. Itinerarios y resistencias de la población indígena (1878-1976), (2010) [Long Nights in La Pampa. Itineraries and resistance of the indigenous population (1878-1976)], which highlights the histories of indigenous peoples in La Pampa Province.

She currently serves as an adjuct researcher at CONICET (Consejo Nacional Investigaciones Cientificas y Técnicas/National Scientific Technical Research Council) and adjunct professor at UNLPAM (Universidad Nacional de La Pampa/National �Թ�� of La Pampa).

Hear about his research and on-going work in Indigenous Languages:

I'm a specialist in Linguistic Anthropology. I obtained my PhD from UC-Berkeley in French in 1993. I then spent two years in Hawaii, where I got involved with Hawaiian and Tahitian languages. I started at CU in the Department of French and Italian in 1995 working on historical anthropology . More recently, my focus is on contemporary Native America and linguistic anthropology, with a continuing secondary interest in Polynesia. I work primarily with the Arapaho and Gros Ventre/White Clay people at the moment.”

In 2014 Andy published Arapaho Stories, Songs, and Prayers with co-authors William C'Hair and Alonzo Moss. Andy also manages CU's Arapaho Language Project.

Come meet CNAIS faculty Clint Carroll from the Department of Ethnic Studies. Clint is a citizen of the Cherokee Nation and says this about his research:

“I study the ability of indigenous nations to assert sovereignty over their lands and the extent to which this enables the perpetuation of unique ecological knowledges and practices.”

In 2015 Clint published his book “Roots of Our Renewal Ethnobotany and Cherokee Environmental Governance.”
