Matthew Tomatz

Matthew joined CAPS in 2008 and has served thousands of CU students in various capacities. Matthew holds a Master of Arts in Psychology (Contemplative Psychotherapy) from Naropa ³Ô¹ÏÍø, a Master of Music from the ³Ô¹ÏÍø of Cincinnati College - Conservatory of Music, and a Bachelor of Music with a certification to teach from the ³Ô¹ÏÍø of Houston.

Prior to joining CAPS, Matthew worked in a variety of settings including drug and alcohol treatment programs, an adult offender therapy program, The Colorado AIDS Project, and private practice. Before entering the field of psychotherapy, he studied music education and trumpet performance and worked as assistant dean for the Aspen Music Festival and School. He is also a certified yoga instructor and trained meditation teacher.

Matthew draws on experiences as a psychotherapist, educator, yoga and meditation instructor, and group facilitator to cultivate a unique way of working with students and the challenges they face. Matthew utilizes a variety of contemplative and psychodynamic therapeutic techniques and a multicultural approach to create a dynamic and purposeful clinical experience. His intention is to help students understand themselves better, develop meaningful relationships, live in accordance with what matters most to them, and meet their goals.
