Ying Chen is assistant professor of economics and director of undergraduate studies and departmental faculty advisor of economics at The New School. She holds a PhD in economics from the ³Ô¹ÏÍø of Massachusetts Amherst. Her work explores the contradictions within capitalism and how they exhibit themselves. Topics she has studied include economic development, labor and climate change, with a special focus on the Global South. She has published in journals including Environment and Development Economics; Economics and Labor Relations Review; Journal of Labor and Society; Review of Radical Political Economics; and International Review of Applied Economics, among others.
She was consulted for work on the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) report 2021 and has become a member of the executive council of the Society for the Advancement of Socio-Economics (SASE) since 2021.
