Fellowship Application: Certificate in Engineering, Ethics & Society

Herbst Fellows are scholars drawn from students enrolled in the Engineering, Ethics & Society Certificate Program and embody the program’s commitment to ethical practice and engaged scholarship.

Herbst Fellows receive a $500 scholarship. During their fellowship year, Herbst Fellows join a cohort of peer-scholars who interrogate the ethical issues most important to them. They attend symposia and events as well as produce a profile of their work to be published in the Colorado Engineer Magazine.

Application Process:

  • Applicants must be students in good standing in the College of Engineering and Applied Science and must be enrolled in the Engineering, Ethics & Society Certificate Program.
  • You can apply for the certificate at the same time as you apply for the fellowship.
  • Applicants must provide a personal statement (500-700 words) in response to the following prompt:

In your statement describe how you became interested in the wider social and ethical implications of engineering and science. What issue or issues are you most concerned about and why? How do you intend to further your interests in engineering, science and ethics? How do you see ethical questions affecting your future studies and professional choices?
