Reflecting on Reading Buddies at the Boulder Main Library
I am a part of doing reading buddies at the main library on Wednesday afternoons. I was partnered with this 8 year old girl named Seraphina. We most recently finished writing and drawing our book. Seraphina is looking forward to presenting her book on the final day for the celebration. Over the past 10 weeks or so I have been able to create an amazing bond with Seraphina and the other day she told me that she thinks we are long lost sisters because we like all of the same things. I think that is just the cutest thing someone could say and it meant so much. I love that she enjoys reading buddies just as much as I am.Ìý
My favorite part each week is the first 30 minutes when we get to talk about what we did over the weekend and what our plans are for the next weekend. This experience has been so fun and genuinely my favorite part of the week each week is reading buddies. It’s so nice for 2 hours a week to just log off and not worry about anything besides reading and making sure that Seraphina is having fun. I love looking forward to reading buddies each week and love watching how much Seraphina improves each week. In the beginning she was definitely a little shy and not as confident in her reading, but as the weeks have gone on I see her breaking out of her shell and her reading has soared. The other day we were reading a book that we read in the beginning that she struggled on a little, and this time she read it with barely any help. I didn't get the chance to ask Seraphina how it has impacted her, however if I were to ask her I think she would say that she just has so much fun each week and really wants me to do reading buddies next semester so that we can be buddies again.Ìý
