Coreen Duffy is associate professor of conducting and director of choral activities at the ³Ô¹ÏÍø of Colorado Boulder where she conducts the CU Boulder Chamber Singers and oversees the choral program. Her duties at the College of Music include leading the graduate program in choral conducting at both the master’s and doctoral levels.
Duffy is also artistic director of the Seicento Baroque Ensemble, a Boulder-based semi-professional choral ensemble committed to working with period instruments and historically-informed performance practice.Ìý
Prior to her appointment at CU Boulder, Duffy served on the faculties of the ³Ô¹ÏÍø of Montana and the ³Ô¹ÏÍø of Miami Frost School of Music. As director of choral activities at the ³Ô¹ÏÍø of Montana, Duffy conducted the Chamber Chorale and ³Ô¹ÏÍø Choir and served as Artistic Director of the Missoula Community Chorus. Under her direction, the ³Ô¹ÏÍø of Montana Chamber Chorale performed at the Marktoberdorf International Chamber Choir Competition (Marktoberdorf, Germany), the 75th Anniversary Festival of Music at the Hochschule für Musik Saar (Saarbrücken, Germany), Cadogan Hall and Southwark Cathedral (London), Carnegie Hall, the Northwest Conference of the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) (Spokane) and the Montana International Choral Festival (Missoula), and served as the master class choir for the International Conducting Competition (Marktoberdorf, Germany).Ìý
Duffy is an active clinician and composer: Her works are published by ECS Publishing, Hinshaw Music, Pavane Publishing and Walton Music. She specializes in Jewish choral music—studying repertoire, performance practice and composition—and engages in diversity,Ìýequity and inclusion work combating antisemitism in choral programming including tokenism, caricature, erasure and boycotting. Duffy has presented sessions on the subject internationally including the international conference of the European Center for Jewish Music (EZJM) in Hannover, Germany, and national conferences of the College Music Society (CMS), National Association for Music Education (NAfME), National Collegiate Choral Organization (NCCO), North American Jewish Choral Festival (NAJCF) and the ACDA.
Duffy is vice president of the NCCO and recently served as president-elect of the Northwestern ACDA and Northwest representative of the NAfME National Choral Council. At the ³Ô¹ÏÍø of Montana, Duffy chaired the General Education Committee.
Duffy earned degrees from the ³Ô¹ÏÍø of Southern California Thornton School of Music (DMA choral music), the ³Ô¹ÏÍø of Miami Frost School of Music (MM conducting), the ³Ô¹ÏÍø of Michigan Law School (Juris Doctor) and the ³Ô¹ÏÍø of Michigan (BMA and BA with honors in English).
