July 18th | 8 - 2 pm @ Central Park Bandshell
Join NEST Studio for the Arts for Shared Atmospheres. Shared Atmospheres is a collaborative project by artist and scientist Dr. Madison Sankovitz and artist Amy Hoagland that brings decommissioned ice cores out of the lab and into public space. The event will feature melting ice cores from the NSF Ice Core Facility, paired with large-scale projections of magnified ice that reveal the intricate structures of this ancient frozen archive of time. Come witness ancient ice from Antarctica and Greenland melt, releasing air trapped in bubbles for ages.
As the ice slowly melts, visitors will be invited to participate in a 'time capsule' activity, contributing drawings or written reflections about their experiences with the ice cores and their hopes for our collective climate future.
By combining art and science, the project transforms scientific specimens into a shared, sensory experience.

Shared Atmospheres is generously funded by the City of Boulder’s Experiments in Public Art program.
